Resources and counseling for families affected by a loved one's addiction or mental health challenges.
At Next Chapter Recovery, we recognize that addiction and mental health challenges affect the entire family system, not just the individual experiencing them directly. Our Family Support Program provides resources, education, and therapeutic support for family members and loved ones who are navigating the complex emotions and challenges that arise when someone they care about is struggling.
Whether your loved one is currently in treatment, considering treatment, or not yet ready for help, our program offers valuable tools and support to help you maintain your own wellbeing while effectively supporting your family member's recovery journey.

Our Family Support Program offers comprehensive resources for healing and growth.
Professionally facilitated therapy sessions that include the individual in recovery and their family members. These sessions focus on improving communication, addressing unresolved issues, rebuilding trust, and developing healthier family dynamics. Our therapists are specially trained in family systems approaches to addiction and mental health recovery.
Weekly support groups exclusively for family members and loved ones of individuals struggling with addiction or mental health challenges. These groups provide a safe space to share experiences, gain insights from others in similar situations, and receive emotional support. Groups are facilitated by experienced counselors who guide discussions and provide educational components.
Structured workshops covering topics such as understanding addiction and mental health disorders, recognizing enabling behaviors, setting healthy boundaries, effective communication strategies, and self-care practices. These workshops provide practical knowledge and skills to help family members navigate their loved one's recovery journey.
One-on-one counseling sessions for family members who need personalized support to address their specific concerns, emotions, and challenges. These sessions provide a confidential space to process feelings of guilt, anger, fear, or grief that often accompany having a loved one with addiction or mental health challenges.
Access to books, articles, videos, and other educational materials about addiction, mental health, recovery, and family dynamics. Our resource library helps family members deepen their understanding and continue their learning between program sessions.
Access to crisis support services for families dealing with urgent situations related to their loved one's addiction or mental health. Our team provides guidance on how to respond to crises, connect with emergency services when needed, and develop safety plans for high-risk situations.
Our program covers essential areas to support family healing and effective recovery support.
Learn about the nature of addiction and mental health disorders, including their biological, psychological, and social components. Understanding these conditions as health issues rather than moral failings or personal choices helps family members develop compassion and appropriate expectations.
Identify patterns of enabling and codependent behaviors that, while well-intentioned, can actually hinder recovery. Learn how to distinguish between helpful support and unhelpful enabling, and develop strategies to break these patterns.
Develop skills for establishing and maintaining appropriate boundaries with your loved one. Learn how boundaries protect both you and your family member, and practice communicating boundaries clearly and consistently.
Learn communication techniques that reduce conflict and promote understanding. Practice active listening, "I" statements, and other tools that improve family dialogue around difficult topics related to addiction and mental health.
Develop healthy ways to process the complex emotions that arise when a loved one struggles with addiction or mental health challenges. Learn techniques for managing anger, fear, guilt, grief, and other common emotional responses.
Recognize the importance of caring for your own physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing while supporting a loved one. Develop personalized self-care strategies and learn to prioritize your needs without guilt.
Understand the process of rebuilding trust after it has been damaged by addiction-related behaviors. Learn how trust is restored gradually through consistent actions over time, and develop realistic expectations for this process.
Develop strategies for providing effective support throughout the recovery journey, including during setbacks. Learn how family support can evolve as your loved one progresses through different stages of recovery.

Find answers to common questions about our Family Support Program.
Yes, absolutely. Our Family Support Program is available to anyone who has a loved one struggling with addiction or mental health challenges, regardless of whether that person is currently in treatment. In fact, many family members find that participating in our program helps them develop skills and strategies that can eventually encourage their loved one to seek help. The program focuses on your wellbeing and how you can effectively support recovery, which is valuable at any stage of the journey.
The cost varies depending on which components of the program you participate in. Some elements, such as our weekly support groups, are offered at no cost. Other components, such as family therapy sessions and educational workshops, have associated fees. Many extended health insurance plans cover family therapy sessions. We also offer sliding scale fees based on financial need and scholarship opportunities to ensure that cost is not a barrier to accessing support. During your initial consultation, our team will discuss the specific costs and payment options available to you.
While family therapy sessions are most effective when all key family members participate together, other components of our program can be beneficial even if only one family member attends. Each family situation is unique, and we understand that not all family members may be ready or willing to participate. Our program is designed to be flexible, allowing individuals to benefit even if they are the only family member seeking support. That said, we do encourage as many family members as possible to participate, as addiction and mental health challenges affect the entire family system, and healing is most effective when everyone is involved.
Our standard Family Support Program is designed for adults (18+). However, we recognize that younger family members are also affected by a loved one's addiction or mental health challenges. We offer age-appropriate resources and support for teens (13-17) through our Youth Family Program, which includes specialized groups and activities designed specifically for younger family members. For children under 13, we provide referrals to specialized children's services and offer parent coaching to help adults support younger children through these challenges.
If you have a loved one struggling with addiction or mental health challenges, and you're experiencing stress, confusion, frustration, or uncertainty about how to best support them while taking care of yourself, our program could be beneficial for you. We offer a free initial consultation where you can discuss your specific situation with one of our family support specialists. They can help you determine which components of our program would be most helpful for your circumstances and answer any questions you may have. This consultation is an opportunity to learn more without any obligation to participate in the program.
You don't have to face this challenge alone. Our Family Support Program provides the resources, education, and community you need to navigate your loved one's recovery journey while maintaining your own wellbeing.
